Vests originate in Persia and have been worn in a similar style by men for over 300 hundred years. In the 1900s, the vest was worn in wintertime under single-breasted suits more for the practical reason of keeping out the cold rather than for fashion or formality. These vests were in the same fabric as the suit.
Vests come in and out of fashion regularly, but they never go out of style. They lend a certain air of authority to suits, but there are a few rules that should not be broken:
